What they say: The sun … the ocean … the farmhouse … the scammer… the police… the 3-legged dog?
George and Ellen have retired to sunny Mallorca. Social butterfly Ellen is itching to make yacht-owning friends while George’s heart is set on a secluded farmhouse in the country. In fact, now that they’re no longer living busy London lives, they’re beginning to realise they have very different ideas of happiness.
Private investigator Salva specialises in cases of adultery. That’s why it’s particularly embarrassing that he didn’t realise his long-term girlfriend has been cheating on him. He has no time to nurse a broken heart, since his family are the victims of a property scam they urgently need him to solve.
Robyn Chase is giving talks on her self-help book, No More Toxic Relationships – 7 Years, 7 Lessons. She’s finding it awkward being a relationship guru when her own boyfriend is avoiding her.
The sun is shining in Mallorca and everything looks beautiful. But the residents of one particular apartment block are about to discover it all might be too good to be true.
The review: I was thrilled to see this author come up for review , I remember ‘Please Retweet’ from the earlier days of the blog and had marked her as one to watch so jumped for this one!
This is a book for those of you who want to be transported to a very vivid but sometimes stark destination in Spain. We meet Salva, a jaded investigator who is beginning to feel the weight of his job as he’s surrounded by his family who are trying to solve some issues.
We move on to a number of different people, including a motivational speaker who doesn’t always take her own advice, a smooth talking charlatan and a couple who both want very different things as they live out their spanish ‘dream’. It was these two that gripped me most, as I felt for both at different times, but obviously leaned towards one(!)
I loved how all of the stories continued along and then careered into each other at the intersection which had me willing on people to do the right thing. All in all a very riveting read, with the perfect balance of gripping and madcap, set against a great backdrop with excellent characters.
Very much recommended! Thanks so much to Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for the book in return for an honest review.
