What they say: Travel Together Tour Manager Eve Mitchell is planning a quiet Christmas at home to rest and relax before a special New Year. But she soon, very unexpectedly, finds herself in the depths of the Essex countryside looking after a singles’ group which contains some old, familiar faces and some pleasant-and not so pleasant-new ones. With its country walks, quizzes, disco and black-tie ball, the Christmas and Twixmas Break passes quickly, but just as they think it’s all over the plot takes a twist and we learn some dark secrets…
The review: I’ll admit I was totally looking for anything light to read when I started this, having been reading a number of exceptionally dark (for me) thrillers (although all fantastic, I felt a bit submerged). And so I arrived at this, an author I recognised from promos but hadn’t had a chance to read.
The premise was great, as a singles get together can only mean alliances being formed and fun being had, and that’s what we got here, but with so much more.
I’m always a fan of busy books, where there’s a large number of characters to keep the show going, and I enjoyed the variety of characters here. I’ll admit I did wonder about some of them and wished I’d read other books of the series and that was a bit of a pity for me so I would say don’t read as a standalone. If you like something a bit loud and fun, with drama thrown in, then this is for you. Thanks to Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for the book in return for an honest review.
