I am so excited to be part of this epic blog tour: that of the fantastic One Christmas Star by my now bookmarked Mandy Baggot!
What they say: Emily Parker is set to have the worst Christmas ever! Her flatmate’s moved out, she’s closed her heart to love and she’s been put in charge of the school original Christmas show –with zero musical ability. Disgraced superstar, Ray Stone is in desperate need of a quick PR turnaround. Waking up from a drunken stupor to a class of ten-year-olds snapping pics and Emily looking at him was not what he had in mind.Ray needs Emily’s help to delete the photos, and she needs his with the show. As they learn to work together they may just open their hearts to more than a second chance…
The Review: I have to admit something now. (Whispers:) I’ve never read a Mandy Baggot book before. Now, I don’t know how many of you are aware that this is a crime against nature, but on reading this book, a book that is the equivalent of a Christmas hug and that should really be part of Christmas in the way that ‘Love Actually’ or ‘Nativity’ is, I have realised what a pity it is!
I loved this book. From the second I met our two leads, Emily Parker and Ray Stone, I was in and couldn’t wait for their paths to crossed (actually I had predicted them meeting up but then when it happened, a little bit later, in different circumstances, I was pretty impressed!). Throughout both were likeable in that nod along kind of way, in a book that has everything in it, bright, vivid characters, fun, comedy, as well as that bit of drama to keep you on your toes. The two films I quoted above, Nativity and Love Actually, are what were in my head the whole time, what with the brightness of the school, a school that’s low on funds and only has a big baddie (that’s what I had him painted as!) to help out, and then the hero that was Ray Stone, a disgraced pop star who has to keep his head down. I enjoyed this book so much as I both predicted and savoured the nice, necessary heartwarming moments and couldn’t have predicted others. The romance was totally my thing as were the laugh out loud moments and fantastically Christmassy moments, teemed with the most perfect cast. As I said, one to buy now and read in your run up to Christmas ( I really wish I wasn’t reading this in September and again, hope next year the Christmas books will come a few weeks later!) . Thanks so much to Aria for the book in return for an honest review and for allowing me to be part of this amazing blog tour!
