What they say: In a remote hunting lodge, deep in the Scottish wilderness, old friends gather.

The beautiful one
The golden couple
The volatile one
The new parents
The quiet one
The city boy
The outsider

The victim.

Not an accident – a murder among friends.

The Review: Is there anything better than not only a whodunnit, but a ‘who is dead?’ book, where you don’t even know who the victim is for most of the book?! So The Hunting Party is an excellent example of this, with the age old tale of a group of friends who aren’t even sure if or why they’re friends any more. It is a book of jumping timelines, points of views and red herrings, all expertly and deliciously twisted about, so that you are basically sitting up, poised for the whole experience!

If you haven’t been able to tell by now, I really loved this book! As the blurb said, it takes place in a hunting lodge in the back of beyonds, in the Highland wilderness of Loch Corrin, with beautiful but dangerous landscapes that lend to the tension that is ever-present. Even given this setting, it is not a headachy read, although it does end to the tension.

The range of characters, which range from unlikeable to unreadable to people you start to feel for are all very distinguishable, as are the only two people who keep the lodge, Doug and Heather, who both have pasts they’d prefer to keep to themselves. As I said the timeline and the points of view jump about, but it was done magnificently and I loved the way you didn’t have a clue who the person who’d been murdered was. Very much recommended!

    1. I had heard about it tons and tons and kept saying ‘must read, looking forward to it’ etc, then saw another gush the other day and was thinking ‘ooer, I’ve left this a while!!!’ Very satisfying, both to get to it and love ! Hope you enjoy:)
